Home of the Grand Pool — billed as the world's largest outdoor mineral hot springs pool (405x100 ft, ~1.07 million gallons), operating since 1888. Water comes from the Yampah spring at the east end of the property. Grand Pool ~90-93°F, Therapy Pool ~104°F; includes splash zone, lodge, and athletic club. Glenwood Hot Springs Resort at 415 E 6th Street in downtown Glenwood Springs is home to the Grand Pool, billed as the world's largest outdoor mineral hot springs pool: 405 feet long and 100 feet wide, holding 1,071,000 gallons and kept at about 90°F, with a diving area and lap lanes. A separate 100-foot Therapy Pool (91,000 gallons) runs about 104°F. The water comes from the Yampah spring at the east end of the property — the Ute name means 'big medicine' — which flows about 3.5 million gallons a day at approximately 122°F. The Yampah Mineral Baths area (included with admission, adults-only after 5 p.m.) contains the source spring and a drinking spring where guests can fill bottles. The property also has the Sopris Splash Zone for kids, a lodge, and an athletic club.

The resort has operated since 1888, when investors developed the spring that Captain Richard Sopris's party documented in 1860; the original red sandstone bathhouse dates to 1890, and during WWII (1943–1946) the resort served exclusively as a U.S. Naval Convalescent Hospital — the only time it closed to the public. Day pool passes run about $42–60 for adults/teens and $30–38 for children (peak vs off-peak variable pricing), cover all-day in-and-out access, and require no reservation. Lockers are included; towels rent for a small fee. Swimsuits required; it is a pet-free facility.

Colorado geothermal context

Colorado's springs rise along fault zones threading the Rocky Mountains — the same tectonics that built the ranges drive deep groundwater circulation. Many sites sit above 7,000 feet, so snowpack closes roads and trailheads well into late spring, and afternoon thunderstorms are routine in summer. Resort valleys like Steamboat, Pagosa, and Ouray anchor the developed end of the spectrum.

What a resort site means here

A resort spring is a commercial operation: developed pools or tubs with controlled temperatures, changing facilities, and usually day-use fees or lodging packages. Expect posted rules (swimsuits, quiet hours, age limits), staff on site, and in many cases required reservations — especially on weekends and holidays.

Best time to visit

Year-Round (Best: May – October)

Pool temperatures and access can change with weather and season. Outdoor ambient temperatures fluctuate significantly across Colorado. Late spring through autumn offers the most comfortable road access.
