Detailed Description

Primitive BLM hot springs in Big Smoky Valley southeast of Austin — two or three metal cattle-trough tubs and a natural soft-bottom pool (~90-110°F, adjustable via inlet pipe) fed by piped geothermal water. The Hickison wild burro herd regularly visits. No facilities of any kind. Source reaches ~140°F — scald hazard. Dirt road impassable after rain. No cell service; pack out waste.

Directions & Trailhead Access

From Austin drive east on US-50, south on SR-376 ~0.25 mi, then east on the unsigned dirt road (Toquima Cave road) near mile marker 99 for ~5-6 miles.
