About this spring

This full-service resort occupies the ground where Saratoga — originally named Warm Springs — began: the Hugus and Chatterton log store went up in 1877 as the town's first post office, saloon, and hot-bath stop, and Cheyenne, Ute, and Arapaho visitors had long treated the springs as neutral ground they called the 'place of magic waters.' The 1884 Saratoga House hotel drew officers from Fort Steele and sportsmen from as far as Great Britain before burning in 1902; the State of Wyoming bought the 420-acre property in 1921 as the Saratoga Hot Springs State Reserve, and its 1923 brick bath house — where a mineral soak cost 50 cents — now houses the resort's Healing Waters Spa.
Today's amenities include a 70-foot mineral pool (about 96–98°F) and five small teepee-covered pools (roughly 100–112°F), heated entirely by natural spring flow and so subject to seasonal fluctuation; the water is notably mineral-rich — the resort cites 191 mg/L sulfur and 576 mg/L sulfates — with low sulfur odor.
