About this spring
SEASONAL (Memorial Day-Labor Day) on Sawtooth NF land, operated since 1928 — a chlorine-free 85°F full-size pool plus 2 mineral hot tubs ~100°F, on the East Fork Wood River ~14 mi north of Ketchum. Easley's history runs deeper than almost any Idaho pool. In 1880 John V. Easley opened a stage station across the Big Wood River from the springs, dug out the pools, and built a log bathhouse and bridge to serve travelers and miners from Boulder City and Galena. After the mines played out, the site lay quiet until 1919, when the Idaho Baptist Convention began camping nearby; in 1928 the Baptists obtained the Forest Service permit and spent $4,500 on improvements, including the 40-by-75-foot reinforced-concrete pool with buttressed sides that still anchors the property. The convention has operated Easley ever since on Sawtooth National Forest land under a special-use permit, with profits funding Cathedral Pines Baptist Camp. The chlorine-free pool holds about 85°F with views of Boulder Peak, while two mineral tubs run near the ~100°F gravity-fed source. Record runoff in 2006 briefly rerouted the river and damaged the pool; repairs finished in 2008 withstood the 2017 runoff.
