About this spring

Also known as Warfield Hot Springs, Frenchman's Bend is a U.S. Forest Service day-use site on Warm Springs Creek in the Sawtooth National Forest, 11 miles from Ketchum at about 6,400 feet elevation. Three wide, shallow, rock-walled pools with sand-and-gravel bottoms line the creek: one sits beside Warm Springs Road while the two hotter pools require wading across. Source water enters around 124°F (the underground aquifer has been measured at 131°F) — mildly alkaline and usually clear, with analyses showing about 69 mg/L sodium and pH 9.1. Soakers tune each pool's temperature by shifting rocks in the dams to mix in cold creek water, which also allows hot-cold contrast soaking. The Forest Service keeps it day-use only (4 a.m.–10 p.m.), requires clothing, and bans pets, alcohol, glass, soap and pool alteration. Spring runoff floods the pools roughly mid-March through June and can make the last seven gravel miles impassable; June–October is the reliable window.
