Heise Hot Springs anchors the unincorporated community of Heise on the north side of the Snake River in Jefferson County, about seven miles northeast of Ririe. German immigrant Richard Camor Heise founded the settlement around the springs between 1890 and 1900, building a hotel and store and obtaining a post office to serve his spa; quarries just north of town later supplied stone for Idaho Falls' Trinity Methodist Church. The spa has operated continuously since, and the surrounding village — incorporated in 1949 and disincorporated in 1974 — still carries his name. Today the resort keeps its natural mineral hot pool at about 104°F, alongside a 96°F warm freshwater pool and a seasonal 84°F summer pool with a 350-foot waterslide. A published water analysis shows a sodium-chloride-dominant mineral water with sulfates, carbonates, magnesium and silica. A golf course, zip line, pizza parlor and campground round out one of southeast Idaho's oldest continuously operating resorts.
